The City of Portland Downtown Development Authority and Portland Main Street program accept applications for both their Facade and Main Street Sign Incentive Grant opportunities.
Please find an application below for the "Local Facade Improvement Grant." Please also find below a copy of our Design Guidelines which are provided to assist building owners and Facade Grant Applicants.
Façade Improvement Grants will be made on a 50%-50% ratio. Applicants must invest at least one half of the total project cost to receive a grant for the other half from the DDA. The grant by the DDA is not to exceed $5,000.00 per facade. Please note that this is a “reimbursement grant” and will be based on final invoices submitted to the DDA. Please also note that in order to be eligible for this grant, applicants must have attended a "Main Street Building Basics Workshop/ Webinar." If you have not yet attended one of these workshops, we will be hosting one in the near future.
The Local Sign Incentive Program provides a matching grant of 50% of the total cost of an approved sign, up to a maximum of $1,000 per applicant. Sign incentive awards must be approved by the Design Committee of the Portland Main Street program and the DDA prior to sign purchase or installation. The Design Committee and the DDA may reject any or all applications and reserve the right to award incentives for signs which are deemed to be in the best interests of the Main Street program and DDA.
Any business located within the Portland Main Street district may apply for the Main Street Sign Grant, and any business within the DDA District may apply for the DDA Sign Grant (when grant rounds are open).
Any business that receives a sign grant from the Portland Main Street program/ Portland DDA is not eligible, and may not apply, for another sign grant for a period of five (5) years.

The Portland Main Street program exists at the intersection of historic preservation and economic development.
