2017 DDA Main Street Facade, Sign and Awing Improvement Grants

The City of Portland Downtown Development Authority and Portland Main Street program accept applications for both their Facade and Main Street Sign Incentive Grant opportunities.

Facade Improvement Grant

Downtown Facade, Awning, and Sign grants

The DDA Main Street Program's Design Committee opened application period for Downtown Facade, Awning, and Sign grants. The current application process will be open through June 1, 2017. Two Facade Improvement Grants up to $5,000 each are being offered at a higher incentive of 60%- 40% ratio. One Awning Grant is being offered up to $4,000 with a 50%-50% ratio. Two sign grants are offered up to $1,000 each, also with a 50%-50% match ratio.

The grants apply to the historic downtown district and applications are scored based on characteristics selected by the Design Committee's historic preservation guidelines. Application packages are reviewed and candidates selected based on completeness of the application and the design integrity that meets characteristic priorities for the Historic Downtown District.

These are “reimbursement grants” that will be based on final invoices submitted to the DDA. In order to be eligible for this grant, applicants must have attended a "Main Street Building Basics Workshop/ Webinar." If you have not yet attended one of these workshops, we will be hosting one in the near future.  Below is a link to our Design Guidelines which are provided to assist building owners and grant applicants. You may contact Margery Briggs, DDA Mainstreet Design Committee chair, to discuss grant requirements, or for any additional grant information, at briggsmmb@sbcglobal.net.

Downtown Sign and Awning grants

The Local Sign Incentive Program provides a matching grant of 50% of the total cost of an approved sign, up to a maximum of $1,000 per applicant. Sign incentive awards must be approved by the Design Committee of the Portland Main Street program and the DDA prior to sign purchase or installation. The Design Committee and the DDA may reject any or all applications and reserve the right to award incentives for signs which are deemed to be in the best interests of the Main Street program and DDA.

Any business located within the Portland Main Street district may apply for the Main Street Sign Grant, and any business within the DDA District may apply for the DDA Sign Grant (when grant rounds are open).

Any business that receives a sign grant from the Portland Main Street program/ Portland DDA is not eligible, and may not apply, for another sign grant for a period of five (5) years.
